This upper-level course will be offered second summer session, 2013.  After introductory lectures on campus, we will spend 21 days in the Republic of Panama, studying in rainforest, Caribbean marine, and Pacific marine systems.  Highlights of the course will include:

• Kuna Yala, studying Caribbean reef, seagrass and mangrove communities while we live among the Kuna people
• Darien Cloud Forest, one of the most inaccessible regions in Central America
• Barro Colorado Island, a research island surrounded by the Panama Canal
• Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute's (STRI) Tupper Center in Panama City
• STRI's Naos Molecular and Marine Laboratory
• Travel up the Chagres River into the rainforest
• Perlas Archipelago in the Pacific Ocean (Yes, the same Perlas Islands from "Survivor Panama")
• Historic and cultural sites including Portobello, Panama la Vieja, Fort San Lorenzo, and the Panama Canal
