To qualify for admission to Lambda Pi Eta, a student must:

be a Communication or Mass media major
have completed at least 60 credits overall
have completed at least 12 credits in COM or MMC courses
have a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average
have a 3.25 or better GPA in COM and MMC courses
be in the upper 35% of his/her class
be currently enrolled as a full-time student
demonstrate commitment to the field of communication
display high standards of professional character


 

 

 

 

 

 


History and Purpose of Lambda Pi Eta:

Lambda Pi Eta was founded in 1985 at the University of Arkansas.  It became the official honor society of the National Communication Association in July 1995.  In February 1996, Lambda Pi Eta was accepted into the Association of College Honor Societies.

The name Lambda Pi Eta is derived from what Aristotle described in his Rhetoric as the three modes of Persuasion:  Logos, Pathos, Ethos.  The purpose of Lambda Pi Eta is to:

promote and encourage professional development among Communication and Mass Media majors

establish and maintain close relationships and understanding between students and faculty

foster and reward outstanding scholarly achievement in communication studies

explore options for graduate education in Communication and Mass Media
