Ed Carroll, with Solid Brass
thanks -
he was a great guy with the most wonderful stories. from what I
understand, he still travelled far and wide to concertize until only
quite recently! we taught lessons at lakeside and lake hamilton
together for the past few years. one of my junior high clarinet
students at HSMS who went to church with him called and left me a
message earlier tonight. he always had his sense of humor, always
totally upbeat in attitude about the "task at hand," and loved all
of his students enough to really teach.... sometimes against all
odds...! but he really was so lonely after his wife passed. what an
example he set for us all, in so many ways.
peace and fond memories.
To Hot Springs Community Band Members;
I am saddened to give you the news that Ed Carroll passed
away this afternoon at 4:35 EST. He went peacefully with no pain or
discomfort.
For those who didn't know Ed well he was a real trooper.
He was director of bands at West Point, has played in Carnegie Hall, was a
lead euphonium in other bands including the Hot Springs Concert Band which
he loved. Ed played many solos for the band over the years. He would have
been 83 on May 23rd.
The Hot Springs Concert Band will leave a empty chair at
the Woodlands Concerts with his horn on the chair.
We will do something special at the Memorial day concert
on May 24th as he was a veteran.
