Join teachers and students from around the state on Monday, November 13, 2017 for a day dedicated to the pedagogy and performance of the Clarinet!  Activities include master classes for 7th-12th grade and College students, a session for 6th grade/beginners and teachers with nationally recognized pedagogue Ray Chapa (one credit hour will be available), and a recital by guest artist Jonathan Gunn (University of Texas).

A $5.00 registration fee will be charged for each student (teachers/chaperones are not charged a fee).  Pre-registration is preferred by November 3, but students may also pay at the door.

JONATHAN GUNN is a versatile artist with a varied career as educator, soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer. Currently, Mr. Gunn serves as the Assistant Professor of Clarinet at the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas, Austin. Appointed by Maestro Paavo Järvi to the position of Associate Principal and Eb Clarinet of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in 2004, Mr. Gunn then served as Principal Clarinet from 2011 to 2016 before joining the faculty at the Butler School of Music. Prior to joining the Cincinnati Symphony, he was the Principal Clarinetist of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, and has performed as Guest Principal Clarinet with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on multiple occasions as well as playing with the New York Philharmonic and the Pittsburgh and Colorado Symphony Orchestras.

Give RAY CHAPA two hours and fifteen students at any level from beginner through high school and he'll have them playing the full range of the clarinet (3 1/2 octaves, from low E to high G3) with amazingly consistent sounds. He has been doing this bit of magic for many years throughout Texas and across the country. Directors demand that results be immediate and conclusive. Hundreds of directors have seen first hand the results of Ray's techniques at live clinics throughout the United States.
